Fundraisers have always recognized the value of a multi-year commitment. These gifts bring revenue stability and they also reflect trust, alignment, and a donor’s long-term belief in the mission. When a donor stops making their donation an annual decision and enthusiastically commits to the next two or three, they’re telling you something important: that they see your work as part of their story.

That’s why the Autonomous Fundraising milestone the Version2.ai team shared this week matters.

For the first time ever, Virtual Engagement Officers secured multi-year pledges autonomously—and did it twice in a single day. These weren’t one-size-fits-all asks; they were driven by giving patterns, personalized to each donor, and completed through fully executed digital gift agreements using Givzey’s integrated Gift Agreement Platform. The first happened at The University of Toledo Foundation, followed later that day by College of Charleston—two organizations that have been leading voices in this work. If you’re interested in how it unfolded, we shared the full story here.

This moment marks a turning point in the evolution of Autonomous Fundraising technology.

Virtual Engagement Officers have definitively proven their ability to execute the full arc of a personalized moves management strategy. Some donors need lengthy cultivation, some are ready for an upgrade, others should be invited into multi-year commitments, and some are signaling readiness for major gifts. Fundraisers are masters at moving donors along in this journey, and Autonomous Fundraising makes it possible to do the kind of work we’ve always known is most effective at a scale that goes beyond the limits of our staff’s capacity.

At its core, this work has always been about connection, about helping people feel apart of something greater than themselves. Autonomous Fundraising strengthens this connection. By bringing thoughtful, strategic engagement to more donors, more often, we’re inviting more people into meaningful, lasting relationships with the missions that move them.

And that’s the kind of future every organization deserves.
