The Story Behind Success
Technical College of the Lowcountry serves 4,000 students across five campuses in South Carolina, serving a community of 177,000 residents. Unlike most four-year institutions, with only 7% of students in college transfer programs, TCL must engage community members who didn’t attend community college themselves.
The Challenge
As an advancement team of three, with one full-time gift officer, TCL only had the fundraising capacity to personally manage the very top of its giving pyramid, about 30 donors.
The Solution
The team added Morgan, a Virtual Engagement Officer (VEO), to their team. Morgan’s 1,000 donor portfolio is composed of community members with demonstrated affinity, $100+ donors, and advisory board members.
The Results
Since launch, Morgan has raised $155,759 in giving and expanded the team's one-to-one fundraising capacity 33x.

1:1 Fundraising Capacity Growth

Scaling Fundraising Like Never Before
Over the last decade, Technical College of the Lowcountry increased its giving by 134%, but its fundraising team of three needed a new way to reach the 1,400 annual donors who were managed by mass communications. By adding Autonomous Fundraising, the TCL team scaled 1:1 engagement like never before.
Initiatives to Further Impact
Morgan has three ongoing initiatives that will drive revenue and engagement:
-
Opt-In Campaign – expand Morgan’s portfolio by introducing the VEO in public speaking engagements at Kiwanis, Rotary, and the annual State of the College luncheon
-
Alumni Giving Initiative– make giving a regular behavior by giving TCL graduates $50 from the Foundation to direct toward their preferred college program, which Morgan will spearhead
-
Community College Month Appeal– double TCL's capacity to make personal solicitations during the Community College Month appeal through Morgan
